Gone Fishing: The Emptiness of The Small Town South

Over the past year I've been traveling to the small towns scattered throughout the Southern United States. Along the way I have discovered that all of these towns, though definitely inhabited, exude a feeling of comfortable emptiness. It is as if the population suddenly left with no hint as to why, they just closed shop and left. I walk the streets, sometimes feeling like the lone inhabitant, collecting visual evidence of the previous population. My photographs are proof there is still life in these towns, even if, for the moment, it seems to be on hiatus. Perhaps they have all gone fishing?
