(June 2, 2020) The Moscow International Foto Awards is pleased to announce the winners in its 2020 photography competition in both Professional and Student divisions.
Returning for a 7th edition, MIFA’s mission is to recognize, reward and expose talented photographers from around the world and introduce them to the creative community in Russia.
Our 2020 global call for entries was received with enthusiasm by the photographic community. From Afghanistan to Zambia and in between, we received thousands of entries from 104 countries around the world, each bringing a unique perspective on our present.
We are thrilled to share our amazing discoveries, top image makers who tell their visual stories in the most exquisite way.
Hossein Farmani, Founder and President of MIFA and its parent company, Farmani Group, shared his excitement at the outstanding images selected as 2020 Winners:
“Now more than ever, photography has a crucial role to play, in telling the uncensored truth about what is happening on our planet and also transporting us away into a world of possibility and imagination. This year’s winners of MIFA offer us a fantastic glimpse into the stories that are important to them, showing us the world in all its shades and forms, reflecting both the pain and the beauty that they see. I am very pleased and proud of this year’s selection of visionary artists.”
After evaluating all the outstanding entries received in this year’s competition, the Jury selected Isabella Tabacchi for her work “Kamchatka: to The Abyss of The Earth” as the 2020 “Photographer of the Year” award—the top prize in the Professional division. This project shows us a glimpse of the mostly unknown Kamchatka peninsula, a dangerous and ever-changing land in the far east of Russia. In addition to the title, the grand prize earned Isabella Tabacchi a cash prize of $3,000, along with a cash donation of $3,000 to the charity of her choosing, the coveted MIFA trophy, and critical acclaim by the international MIFA Jury.
Karoline Schneider took the top prize in the Student/Amateur division, being named 2020 “New Talent of the Year” for her portrait series “Pears in the Afternoon”. Schneider will also receive the MIFA Trophy, a $2,000 Cash Prize and a $3,000 cash donation to the charity of her choosing.
1st place Category Winners have also been awarded a $100 Cash Prize, with an equal amount given to the charity of their choosing in their community, to support and honour the outstanding work of both professional and amateur photographers around the world during the Covid-19 crisis.
All winners and Honorable Mentions will receive the MIFA Winner Certificate and Winner Seal, and are now featured on the Winners Gallery on the MIFA website.
