Carousels are exposed and eccentric bodies. They imply sensation and daring, speed and commotion, intense participation and pleasure. In short, they are emotional merry-go-rounds, wholly oriented to the spectacle. Carousel architecture comes in a variety of shapes and designs yet its basic function is always the same. Its individual profiles vie for attention and strive to outdo one another. Photography makes it possible to assemble images of various carousels and set them in relation to one another. The triad of capital (the ticket office), circulation (the hub) and inclusion (the fairground setting)) creates the requisite space for the game of simulation.
