The Leaping Place is a series of large format landscapes taken in and around the Hamakua region of Hawaii, to which my family immigrated 150 years ago. Its title refers to a concept in ancient Hawaiian mythology, in which the soul of a sleeping or deceased person may, from certain places, 'leap' in to the underworld to commune with ancestors.
