I have made an investigation into the Indonesian practice of Pasung, which is the forcible restraint and torture of severely ill mental patients. My article focuses on the work of Dr. Luh Ketut Suryani and the efforts of her namesake instutute to eradicate this practice. Apart from the obvious humanitarian impact of this article, It is extremely topical owing to the volume of current media coverage featuring Indonesia, its newly elected head of state and its burgeoning economy.
