The idea for Kadet came to me while working on the relationship between body consciousness and pleasure. The photo is suspended between hyper-realism and surrealism: two very different concepts that, etymologically, refer to “something” that goes “beyond reality.” It is impossible to clearly describe with words what that “something” is. But what the image conveys to the viewers, in its own language, is a sense of freedom of expression that overcomes everything else.

Lynn Bianchi is a multimedia artist. Her photographic work has been shown at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Japan; Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne, Switzerland, Walker Art Center, etc. and is reproduced in the Walker’s catalogue The Expressionist Figure. Bianchi’s art is featured in over forty publications and resides in numerous private collections, including Manfred Heiting’s and Peter Norton’s, as well as in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas; Brooklyn Museum in New York, Biblioteque Nationale de France, Paris, Musée Ken Damy, Brescia, Italy, 21c Museum, Louisville, Kentucky.
