Foreigner: Migration into Europe 2015 - 2016 is a photography book which looks at the migrant/refugee crisis over the course of one year. The project is broken down into six chapters which cover three aspects of this humanitarian crisis. Migration into Italy from North Africa across the Mediterranean Sea, Migration into Greece and thought the Balkans into Austria and Germany and the migrant/refugee camp in Calais known as the Jungle. The book uses photography as an empowering and peaceful tool rather than one of judgement. It is a reaction against the imagery and vocabulary used in the media which I found to be sensationalist, alarmist and did not take into consideration with any respectable sensitivity the situation faced by hundreds of thousands of people that have arrived in Europe fleeing war and extreme poverty. This book is an attempt to offer an honest and considered approach to the situation, giving those at the heart of the crisis a voice and an opportunity to represent how they are seen.
