Reggio di Calabria is my home town, the largest city and the most populated aerea of Calabria (Italy). In 2014, in attempt to comply with Italian laws on waste disposal, a door to door differentiated waste collection was introduced. Since then 50% of the population, 100,000 people, doesn't pay taxes on garbage and throw their waste around the city every day. This triptychs project shows some of the landfills and objects I've found during my investigation, along with portraits of the children of some of my friends, who still live in Reggio Calabria. This is the present of their future.

Mauro Santoro is an Italian photographer and filmmaker. After graduating in film and theater criticism he began working as a freelance filmmaker, making commercials, corporate, music and wedding videos. In 2009 he attended a master class in Cinema and Social Commitment with the director Paolo Benvenuti. In 2015 he started taking photography seriously, after an unexpected love affair with it.
