A Piece of Expired Sea

The country I grew up was surrounded by sea, both side of sea present different color, landscape, living condition, and also political wrangling. My hometown was once a seaside historical site, a survived Portuguese fort build beside the Melaka Straits, five minute walk from my home. Many stories happened here and change the history of this country. Times pass by, the sea was retreated far and far away after the land reclamation projects, the historical breathe gone in the fast pace of the city. A Piece of Expired Sea is an ongoing project, I choose to travel around the both seaside of my country, to explore the different lineaments of different seascape, what shaped them and changed their looks? Who will remember the history of the seascape after all? The medium I use to create this series of work is medium format expired film. Everything will be expired someday, for example, the life, the thought, the creation and also, a landscape, a history. I try on different expired film, that cannot ensure the best quality of photography, just like the condition of our life, our environment, you can’t ensure the best result of life, the truly truth of history, the never changing landscape. personal site: http//matotytee.wix.com/matotyteephotography Mato Tytee, also known as Tan Yan Tee, is a MFA holder of National Taipei University of the Arts (TNUA).
