Protests in Turkey were sparked by outrage at a brutal eviction of a sit-in at the Gezi Park protesting against the demolition plan. Subsequently, supporting protests and strikes took place across Turkey protesting a wide range of concerns, such as freedom of the press, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, and the government's encroachment on Turkey's secularism; almost 200 people have applied to Turkish Human Rights Foundation's treatment and rehabilitation centers because of bad treatment and police torture. The Taksim unrest has been the first step of a bigger long lasting political crisis.
