The chairs

The idea for this photo series started last year when I first came in San Francisco. I went to a photography workshop held by Alessandra Sanguinetti, a Magnum photographer established in San Francisco, and for my first assignment she sent me to an upholstery to make a portrait with the owner of this place, a very nice Turkish guy. After she saw my photos she said that I'm awful in photographing people but I should photograph places and things because this is my strength. After this moment, I went back there and I began searching that upholstery and something guided me to the basement were I found many abandoned chairs. I saw a white chair with a broken arm and suddenly I began to imagine how it would look like if it were a person.. That is how it started the idea but after this moment, I went back home in Romania and I returned after an year. Because of Alessandra I decided after to return in San Francisco and study photography at Academy of Art University where I'm currently enrolled in a MFA program. This series was made for an exam at the Academy and now includes ten different diptychs. I thank to all the people who helped me to begin and create this photo series.
