Splendid China

China is experiencing a rapid and sudden growth. In a few years the cities have grown dramatically, new urban settlements were born, the territory has completely changed. The architectures of the past have often been surrounded by new buildings, which often do not maintain any relationship with them, at best the new towers are mere observers of the past. I photographed Splendid China in Shenzhen, an attraction that has scaled-down replicas of China's historical buildings. The scale models are in the main in a ratio of 1:15 and the exhibits are positioned to replicate their geographical locations. I have taken “Splendid China” project’s pictures to give a sense of ambiguity, which does not show clearly whether the buildings in the foreground is real or a replica, to create a sense of disorientation and pretended security in the observers. Unreally perfect photographs to ask questions rather than give answers to.
