Tangenziale

The “tangenziale” of Milan is a ring of by-pass highways built around the city since the mid-'60s, with the aim of easing traffic congestion. In this project I show the relationship between these highways and the environment from two points of view: from the outside, highlighting the often difficult integration with both residential and rural areas; and from the inside, showing their aspect of non-place and the isolation from the surrounding landscape. As the project - still in progress - evolved, I found multiple layers overlapping, from landscape photography to industrial archaeology to a sort of metaphysical vision.
