Magda, Emma & Sophie

Magdalena leads a quiet life in Bad Kreuznach. She is married, has a 10 months old child - and is pregnant for the second time. Luck broke when she learns that both daughters, Emma and Sophie, have cystic fibrosis, an incurable genetic disease. After the diagnosis, her husband leaves Magdalena and the babies. From now on, she must take care of the two sick children alone. First, she is resigned and deeply distressed. However, just initially unfamiliar people from a church community, friends and colleagues help her in getting her life back on track. They morally support her and provide financial aid.   During a cure by the sea, Magdalena determines how well the climate does the girls - and with a heavy heart, she decides to leave her home with all its collateral and emotional security and moves to the North Sea in Sankt Peter-Ording. The beginning in August 2012 is difficult but the welfare of her children is the most important thing for her. She finds a job as a nurse for the Red Cross. Her children are doing much better by the maritime climate. The girls go to school, make friends and enjoy family trips to the beach. Magdalena and the girls have started a new life and feel well home again. For nearly two years the small family now lives by the sea and Magdalena’s courage for change was rewarded. "Despite the limiting disease we have found pleasure in life again.“   A story about true acts of a lioness-mum fighting for the survival of her kids - and also for her own life. Daily life affected by an incurable disease and how to deal with it without pity, sadness and melancholy. Not about heroes, but about trying to turn fate to the best possible outcome - about humanity and the power of optimism. Sometimes it is hard to imagine that Emma and Sophie (8 and 9 years old now) are sick. Specifically the serene and carefree moments demonstrate how precious even a life with limitations can be. My work shall create more space for understanding, but above all encouraging.
