Night Rooms, Al Zana, Gaza

These homes in al-Zana, Gaza, lie close to the border shared with Israel. The photographs were taken in September 2014 just after the end of the war that claimed over 2,100 lives on both sides. In Gaza, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that roughly 520,000 Palestinians had been displaced due to the fighting. The majority of these homes in this series had been destroyed by IDF tanks driving into the fronts of them. By lighting their hollow facades with the car headlamps at night, their front rooms stand exposed, lit up like theatre sets. My work from Gaza concentrated heavily on the destruction of lives and homes, particularly focusing on the effects it has on children in the region.
