Mitsuyo is my grandmother. She is 84 years old. I grew up with her until 19 years old. She was independent. She was stubborn. She was selfish. She was tough. She liked traveling. She liked gardening. She liked sewing. She liked dancing. I’ve been away from her for 11 years. She has been fighting against liver cancer for three years. Every single time I visit her, she looks slightly smaller than before. She isn’t independent like before. She isn’t stubborn like before. She isn’t selfish like before. She isn’t tough like before. She doesn’t travel anymore. She doesn’t garden anymore. She doesn’t sew anymore. She doesn’t dance anymore. But, she is still Mitsuyo, my grandmother. She is honest, sensitive, bright, humorous, fragile, and strong. Mitsuyo is my grandmother. She is a stunningly beautiful woman.
