My life is a bunker

Marinka, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. In April 2015, with the help of the NGO "People in Need", I visited families who live in old cold war bunkers in the war thorn city of Marinka. These people got their houses demolished by the bombardments or are just too afraid to sleep in it at night. The bunkers belong to the local coal mine company who tolerate their presences for now.

I have begin taking photos since I was 11, taking my father’s Brownie Super 27 camera, without his permission, to shoot people throwing stones at soldiers in the street of Montreal, during the 1970 October crisis. I found out early that I was more attracted by stories than by simply shooting for the sake of it. Since the 90s I have shot different documentaries covering mainly social or humanitarian issues.
