Our body is our home, our safe place, but for those who are obese, the body becomes an inhospitable place, a prison they can not escape from. The unsustainable weight tells the story of Gianni’s life, 47 year old, living in Rome (Italy) who suffers from obesity since many years. Tells about of his solitude, his difficulties, and the emotionally and physically unsustainable weight, having to face his own life as obese person. Gianni over time, has lost and put on weight, up to more than 300 kg, and obesity has deeply influenced his affective and work life. He doesn’t have a secure job, he is separated and he lives in an basement that is located in the house of his parents, in a condo full of steep and narrow stairs which makes it difficult for him to go out home. Compared to what common people think, obesity is not a fault, is not caused by laziness, and is not possible resolve it simply by diet. Obesity is a chronic disabling disease, caused by multiple factors (genetic predisposition, environmental factors, eating habits, metabolic disorders, mood and personality disorders etc.), and is accompanied in many cases to psychological distress, depression, isolation and difficulties in social relation. Who is obese, lives comparing himself with physical limitations, and with the prejudice of a society conditioned by thin images of beauty, and often, suffers discrimination similar to a sexual and racial one. Obesity or globesity, has become in the last 10 years, a global problem, and is now considered an epidemic by WHO, which threatens the health of all nations. Currently, in the world, the percentage of obese people, is growing faster than that of people who suffer from hunger or malnutrition. The worldwide datas are worrying: 1.9 billion of adults and 45 million children under 5 are overweight or obese (WHO Report 2001; WHO 2014 data).
