Slow Loris

These Slow Loris portraits are part of a larger project focused on primates and the conflict they face in todays world. This loris is a educational animal which travels with it's handler to schools and other educational sites to inform audiences about lorises. The illegal pet trade has affected these cute little creatures at a alarming rate, with teeth being pulled out inhumanly. Many do not survive this first savage act and left to die. The species is a nocturnal strepsirrhini primate, found in Southeast Asia. They have a pincer-like grip and a toxic bite. The toxin is obtained by licking a gland on their arm, mixing with saliva activates the toxin. This little guy has all his teeth and is SLOW, much admired by me.
