in former times history was written by the victors. nowadays photographers and journalists are also writing. and anywhere people are reading and watching and writing. faraway is in front of me. I started the ongoing series with digital composites of universal soldiers of world war one and two – the pics I found in the grab bag internet. wars divided in good or bad, soldiers in dead or alive. today we seem to live in one world, a world without borders and division. but division is still anywhere at any time. devision means taksim in turkish. the composites of the protests at taksim maydanı beginning in juin 2013 reminds of history painting. and I see „the angel of history“ turning his face toward the past, as walter benjamin wrote, facing „one single catastrophe and not a chain of events while his back is turned to future.
