This picture is part of a series named "In the room". A short statement follows: A secluded and silent place where a mother puts to sleep her child through breast-feeding. The mother’s solid presence consciously supporting the baby’s passage into unconsciousness, renewing the ritual, everlasting gestures of former generations of women. A suspended time of devotion and tenderness that coexists with the alienating repetitiveness of a daily routine. These are the main issues explored by the pictures, to describe the atmosphere of a private and symbiotic moment, exclusive of the experience of maternity.

Born in 1970, Francesca Cesari is a freelance photographer based in Bologna, Italy. With an academic background in Art History, she started as a self-taught photographer and then perfected her skills with a Diploma in Professional Photographic Practice at the London College of Communication. Her artistic research focuses on people, mostly photographed in interiors with natural light. The projects she leads concentrate on the many stages in the life of human beings, with a particular interest on family, motherhood and adolescence.
