War Gardens

War Gardens is a fresh look at war through peaceful images combined with the personal stories in beautiful yet poignant, incongruously peaceful and sometimes tragic surroundings. As a combination of photojournalism, portraiture, war-reporting, and art, War Gardens appeals to a wide demographic whilst challenging traditional notions of war photography. It examines the importance of gardens in war-ravaged countries as a means of creativity, therapy and hope, and for the common bond of humanity they instil. As Voltaire so fittingly concludes in his novella Candide: ʻil faut cultiver notre jardinʼ – we must cultivate our garden.
