Becoming {Detail C}

This image is from the series 'Becoming' and reflects the notion the self is not a fixed entity, but rather one that exists in a perpetual state of flux. A photographic sculpture of a representation of outward identity, the portrait, is simultaneously deconstructed and reconstructed, morphing into continuously moving and individual, fragmented pieces. The chaotic assembling and disassembling of the object causes the layers of raw material to become the subject while the pictorial whole has the potential to become shattered into an atomized abstraction. The series echoes the paradoxical notion that creation often arises from destruction. The fluid evolution of the self is a cyclical process of being dismantled and put back together.
