High Hopes of Immigration

Place: Beach of Noto, near Siracusa (Sicily - Italy). A happy child is playing on a swing hung by unaware bathers on the remains of an immigrants' boat. The vessel ran aground and then was slowly swallowed by the wet sand of the shore, to the point of leaving only the top metal structure exposed, making it unrecognizable to beach goers. The ongoing European migrant crisis is causing a rising number of refugees and migrants to make the journey to the European Union to seek asylum. They travel across the Mediterranean Sea or through Southeast Europe on small unseaworthy boats which often cause their death.
