Since the collapse of the Taliban regime in late 2001, the lives of millions of people in Afghanistan have changed. Unveiled attempts to explore how that pivotal moment in history has affected the daily experiences of Afghan women and aims to dismantle the assumptions assigned collectively to women in Afghanistan. By giving individual voices to those who are often ignored or forgotten in international discourse about the future of the war-torn country, Unveiled lets women tell their stories in their own words in order to shine a light on the realities facing half of the Afghan population. Photographed against a plain background the women are “individuals” instead of a collective “other” or “poor women in Afghanistan”. Unveiled lets the women depicted speak for themselves and explain their own personal concerns or aspirations.
