Hazaribagh

Hazaribagh, neighborhood in southwestern Dhaka, is one of the most polluted places in the world. There are about 250 tannery factories and more than 20,000 people work in this area. Workers are suffer from skin deceases and respiratory illness caused by exposure to hazardous chemicals. Also residents of Hazaribagh complain of fevers, skin diseases, respiratory problems, caused by tannery pollution of air and water. After repeated decrees from the Supreme Court, the Bangladeshi government finally declared to relocate the tanneries to outskirts of the city. As luxury goods, leathers are exported to throughout the world, especially United States, European countries, and Asian countries.
