Emma, 100 years old, doyen of Burano lace school. The history of lace in the island of Burano gets lost in the mists of time. Some stories tell that the typical Burano lacework is linked to the seafaring tradition of its people, most of them fishermen, hence related to nets making or patching. First evidence of Venitian lace trade dates back to the end of XV century. Nowadays this art is still alive thanks to some old masters like Emma and we wonder for how long it will stay alive.
