TRAIN OF THOUGHTS

  • Photographer
    Mauro De Bettio

(Orissa, India) - I met this child during a long train ride through Orissa, in India. The whole time he watched and studied all my gestures and followed my every movement. Every now and then he remembers that, besides the world inside the coach, there was also the one who was running fast outside the window. The astonished gaze, curious, surprised, like the one of a creature that looks at the world for the first time. To dream, chasing the trail of a plane that pierces the clouds in the sky, with his chin resting on the bars of that rectangle. This time it's me that imitates his imagination. And I know that he was dreaming, because, as a child, I was doing the same hanging from the window of my father's car.

Born and raised in a little village in the Italian Alps, now based in Barcelona, Mauro already felt from young age the desire to tell. He discovered that the camera was the right tool for him, the eye through which he could speak to the world. An instrument that began to walk by his side towards a long journey of discovery. “Although it is difficult to express, I think that the photograph represents my way of speaking and what I try to do through my language is to capture the sense of what I breathe and touch with my hands. Not only in appearance but also, and especially, in the essence".
