This work presented contemporary wedding possibilities in an unorthodox way. Taking the key elements of traditional Chinese weddings and the Chinese opera, I interpreted them in a modern way—the red tailored cheongsam represents the essence of a Chinese wedding, and the heavy makeup with a coronet symbolize the Chinese opera. The added veil resembles a conventional idea of a wedding—dreamlike and romantic. An old temple was chosen for the shoot location to reflect the aspects of the character.
Joe Lai is from Taiwan who has a strong interest in art since he was very young. In his education in the field of art and design, he has many opportunities to use the camera as a device, but the camera has never played an important role in his creative activities. In recent years, Joe begins to explore the camera as a creative tool in his spare time. Through a period of trials and errors, he quickly becomes interested in portraits and wedding photography. Joe would continue to explore the beautiful images and create inspiring works through his camera lenses for the years to come.
