Metaphysical Photography

These photographs seek to represent what is beyond the obvious physical appearance of reality, beyond experience of the senses. The idea of such photography is to keep a figurative aspect while raising images to a metaphysical rank (outside history and physical reality), proposing strange images frozen in time and space which would give to time to think about metaphysical ideas rather than tumult of the world. Through portraiture I am trying to establish new links between the obvious physical image of the model and its spiritual, inner, hidden representation. We all are more than our physical appearance therefore the whole photography becomes the portrait. The room, the artefacts, the furniture, the paintings behind the model, are all part of the representation of the model. As most ancient scripts I wish to use the rebus principle, which is, using pictures to represent words. Here in the case of these portraits I want to reveal the unknown through the use of abstract elements mixed with the photographed subject and object extracted from my imagination. All this reveals to the mind unusual correlations, or rather, remarkable affinities. Therefore the space of the photographs remains tightened by a mysterious fate, by a threatening phenomenon which could explode anytime in a terrible revelation.
