Jewish girl

  • Photographer
    Flokje van Lith

A girl looks into a room where a chair is waiting for her. The setting is one of abandonment and melancholy. How to cope with the burden of a tragic history? The premises of a sanitarium fallen into disuse in which the girl appears have survived both WWI and WWII. Hitler was treated there during both wars. After the last war the Soviets used the buildings until the collapse of the Berlin Wall. With the Jewish girl portraits I want to explore the contrasts between beauty and transience on the one hand and atrocities of deportation and extermination on the other.
