A graphical shape, that very often returns, in sweet foods, al kinds of gifts, emoji’s,etc..Mostly we use it to express our feelings..to someone who has a special place in our heart. If we dig a bit deeper into the symbolism, then it stands for a range of emotions, commonly associated with the feeling of love..on the other side it can also stand for the “broken heart”,pain...and in some cultures it’s been used in magical love-rituals. For this serie images i played with some of these thoughts & made 5 visual metaphors, where i used 'sweet foods' as a symbol of the heart with a link to love.

Wesley Dombrecht(1979) is a Belgium-based photographer, currently best known for his personal photography work and art-series in the ”fine-art / still-life” genre, mostly working around food. Through a graphic approach and elaborately staged compositions, his personal work offers the viewer a different perspective on food – mostly there is an underlying story connected to his series.. In the years he developed a signature style for his personal work, utilising dramatic lighting, minimal sets and an unsaturated colour palette, what gives his images a very aesthetic, painterly, appearance.
