Extraña Atracción (Strange Attraction) is a series about rituals, memories, time and longing through the decoding of the objects in the frame. A visual narration of the curiousness of life and the relations that we form with others. As stated in the title, strange attraction reflects on the complexity of coexistence, our desires to control things that are simply out of our control and the flirtation between fantasy and reality. From love to family there is an inexpressible longing that leads into the realm of woolgathering and fantasy.
The work of Omar Torres (b. 1977) is built around our emotions, nourished by the daily feelings of our existence and the tireless search to find an emotional balance. Through the exertion of total control in his installations, the objects function as a synthesis of the human being. Through objects Torres represents situations of resistance and tolerance in life. The elements within the frame depend on each other to coexist in a space. The relationship and dependence between the elements in his images remind us of the emotional ties and links we have with other people.
