Sic Transit Gloria Mundi These images capture the dichotomy of constant motion and still-lifes: hurrying versus waiting, movement versus stasis. The hustle and bustle can oftentimes be overwhelming. People come and go with no notion of those around them. They fade in and out, and move so quickly that they are almost invisible. I capture everyday life, simultaneously being aware of the continual action surrounding us, and those moments worthy of a full stop. Long exposures allow me to capture fleeting glimpses of the movement and chaos that happen in our own lives while at the same time recording the actions of those that slow down long enough to come into my focus. Movement is never fully detailed and becomes a blur just lingering within the frame. Only those who stop are truly focused and fully recorded in the photographs. The pictures themselves are softly printed on fine art matte paper to further enhance the pictorialist-like aesthetic of the captured images. For me, life and all the movement I capture are really just a series of tiny scenes taking place all at once. Every movement illustrates a chance at a connection that passes by. Each frame reminds us that we must keep moving and yet, make time to stand still.
