Since the start of the Mosul offensive in late 2016, more than half a million civilians have been displaced from their homes. Many flee with little more than the clothes they are wearing, often exhausted and malnourished after months or years stuck inside the ISIS-held city. Those who manage to escape end up in sprawling IDP camps around the city, dependent on NGOs for food and water, and with little idea of when they will be able to return home.
