G20 In Hamburg: Welcome to Hell

Hamburg hosted the twelfth G20 Summit on the 7th and 8th of July 2017; earlier, on the 6th of July many protesters gathered in the streets of Hamburg to protest againist the G20 Summit: they met in St. Pauli where the "Welcome to Hell" demonstration took place. Hundred of thousand people were there. Violence broke out near the start of the demonstration; Protests in Hamburg saw violent clashes between police and Black bloc protesters: many buildings were set alight, many cars have been destroyed, Hamburg's streets erupt into chaos. Hundreds of people from all over the world were arrested.

Francesco Bellina (1989) is a freelance photographer based in Palermo. He works on documentary and contemporary photography, prefering political, social and economic issues. He is attended a course on photoediting at Officine Fotografiche, in Rome. In 2016 and 2017 he was nominated for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass. His works have been published on The Guardian, Le Monde, Internazionale, Paris Match, L'Espresso, Repubblica, The Globe and Mail, among others.
