Oyako is the Japanese word for parent & child and the book's title. It started with an assignment to photograph punk musicians when I hit on the idea of photographing them with their parents. I thought it would be an amusing way to bring out the differences in lifestyles and fashions between the 2 generations. The pictures revealed so much, I continued exploring this theme as a way of looking at how their culture is adapting to change. The book covers a variety Japanese from musicians, sushi chefs, and monks, to sports figures, adult film actress, celebrities, and Hello Kitty & her mother.
