The 11th day of Terr in the Ethiopian calendar, corresponding this year to January 20th, is celebrated the Timkat which recalls the baptism of Christ. This festival is best known for its ritual reenactment of baptism and the thousands of pilgrims that all around Ethiopia make processions. This procession ends in a church where the faithful stay praying and chanting till the next morning when, towards dawn, water is blessed and sprinkled with pipes on the participants symbolically renewing their baptismal vows. UNESCO in 2019 inscribed Timkat on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

My name’s Roberto Scordino and I’m a professional photographer born and based in Rome. I started to photograph in 2016 but I have worked for a long time with multimedia projects working with multinational institutions and brands and have been a VJ starting in 1999 back to the times of vhs. For years I have been interested in socio-anthropological research in the world of subcultures. In the last years I studied photography with awards-winners photographers like Paolo Marchetti and Dario De Dominicis, I am graduated in the Masterclass held by Fausto Podavini, Rosy Santella and Giovanni Cocco.
